Two teenage girls were shot and killed in a parking lot at/near the Alturas apartment complex on Ambaum Blvd. SW at SW 137th Street in Burien (map below) Wednesday night, March 28. Police say that Wednesday night at 9:36 p.m., Deputies were dispatched to a shooting call in the 13700 block of Ambaum Blvd SW. The first Deputies arrived one minute after the 911 call, where they found a chaotic scene of people running and cars speeding away. They located two female victims, exact ages unknown but described as being in their teens. CPR was administered on-scene and Medics transported them both to Harborview Medical Center where, sadly, the teens later died.

UPDATE March 29 4:30 p.m.: One of the victims was a Highline Public Schools student.
Detectives are continuing to investigate exactly what happened but believe this is gang related; here’s what they know so far:
  • Multiple shots were fired during a disturbance in the parking lot of the Alturas apartment complex and the two female victims were hit by gunfire.
  • The male suspects left the scene, possibly in a vehicle parked nearby, but police have no more information on this yet.
  • Detectives will continue to work this investigation and will provide an update as soon as they have more information.
“The public should be assured KCSO/Burien Police will be conducting extra patrols of this area,” Sgt. Ryan Abbott said. Highline Public Schools Superintendent Susan Enfield sent out the following email late Thursday afternoon:
Dear Families, As you may be aware, there was a shooting at the Alturas apartments in Burien last night that took the lives of two teens. We are sad to share with you that one of those victims was a student in our district. We know that this tragic incident is impacting our students, families and staff. If you believe your child needs additional support, please let your principal or school counselor know. We, as a school system, must be here for our children and one another during this difficult time. We are reaching out to community leaders and law enforcement to discuss how we can come together to ensure the safety of our children both in and outside of school. We hope many of you will join us for any upcoming community conversations. We will share information on our website. Our hearts go out to all who have been touched by this tragic event. Sincerely, Susan Enfield Superintendent
