Your art really brightens up the alleyway!”[/caption] As part of a larger effort by the City of Burien to increase safety at a crosswalk on Military Road S. leading to Hilltop Elementary School, an alleyway was painted with a mural. 2015-10-20 08.07.46 2015-10-20 08.13.02 2015-10-20 08.13.36 2015-10-20 08.19.35 HDR Hilltop Elementary is located at 12250 24th Ave S. in Burien. Here’s more info about the project from Katie Trefry, Communications Officer for the City of Burien:

The City sent the crosswalk improvement proposal to King County to be considered for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG funding), from the Non-Housing Capital Fund. We expect to have an official announcement on whether the funding will be awarded sometime next month. If awarded, the project would likely be installed over summer break next year (2016) – ready for students by the start of next school year. Currently, a crossing guard does her best to keep children safe. (There’s a blind-ish curve in Military Road S and drivers frequently exceed the school zone speed limit posted just north of the crossing.) The City pursued CDBG funding in response to parents’ safety concerns at the crossing.
