Burien City Councilmember Alex Andrade remained in third place in Wednesday’s (Aug. 6) results for the primary race for Legislative District 33, Position No. 2, trailing Republican Yuri Marinchik by 473 votes for the second spot in the November general election.
Incumbent Mia Su-Ling Gregerson, a Democrat, leads the race with 11,269 votes, or 53.02%. Marinchik, who prefers the Republican Party, was in second with 5,208 votes, or 24.50%. Andrade, a Democrat, had 4,735 votes, or 22.28%.
Under Washington’s top two primary system, the two candidates with the most votes advance to the general election. To move into second place, Andrade would need to gain at least 474 net votes on Marinchik in ballots still to be counted.
Andrade has gained ground since the initial Aug. 4 results, when she had 2,906 votes, or 22.13%. As of Wednesday’s count, she had added 1,829 votes and increased her share by 0.15 percentage points, but remained behind Marinchik.
Countywide turnout stood at 28% as of Aug. 6, with 409,531 ballots counted out of 1,454,559 registered voters, according to the election statistics.
Results are scheduled to be certified Aug. 18.
