Highline High’s football Pirates earned its first football victory of the season Friday night, Oct. 9, defeating Interlake 28–12 in an away conference game in Bellevue.

The Pirates ended a five-game losing streak and improved to 1-5 overall.

Interlake, which entered 1-4 losses, also moved to 1-5.

Highline finished with a 16-point margin of victory.

Highline entered Friday’s game ranked seventh in the seven-team KingCo Crest standings. The victory improved the Pirates to 1-3 in conference play, moving them ahead of Interlake, which fell to 1-5 conference losses. Highline also matched its total of one victory from last season with two games remaining.

Including the Interlake victory, Highline has scored 77 points through six games, averaging 12.8 per game. That is slightly above its average of 11.7 points across nine games last season, when the Pirates scored 105 points. Friday’s 28 points were Highline’s highest scoring total this season.

Highline has also reduced opponents’ scoring considerably, allowing 157 points through six games, an average of 26.2 per game, compared with 44.4 last season. The 12 points allowed against Interlake marked the Pirates’ lowest opponent total of the season.

Highline next hosts Newport of Bellevue at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, before its final game at Redmond on Friday, Oct. 23.
