We encourage residents of all ages to submit stories and photos for posting – for consideration, please email yours to editor@b-townblog.com!] Photos and Story by Isabel Herbruger, age 11 For those readers who have not been following the Pirate Wrestlers on Facebook, there has been a lot going on the past two weeks: On Dec. 15, the Pirates hosted Fife. The final score was Highline 33 to Fife 42. It was a good meet with the Pirates pinning three and having the only win decided by points. Fife had five pins (click images to see larger versions/slideshow): On Dec. 17, the Pirates hosted Tyee/Evergreen. Tyee and Evergreen combine teams because they do not have enough wrestlers as individual schools. JV and the Lady Pirates were also at this meet. The Lady Pirates had two wins and two loses. JV won both of their matches. Varsity Pirates lost two by points and one by a pin. There was one bad elbow injury which delayed the meet while medics helped the wrestler. He was able to walk out on his own. The friendship between Evergreen, Tyee and Highilne wrestlers is amazing. They compete fierce on the mat and cheer so loud it hurts my ears. After matches, they compare moves and bruises, congratulating each other for their good efforts. This friendship was really obvious when the Evergreen wrestler was hurt. Many of the Pirates checked on him while waiting for the medics to arrive and Coach Rice stayed by his side while the medics stabilized his arm. On Dec. 28, the Pirates traveled to Tri-Cities for a Winter Tournament at Hanford. I was able to make the trip to report on the Pirates and made updates to the Facebook page throughout the day. Senior Brian Womac won his three matches really fast. He placed first in his weight class. Sophmore Kyle Herbruger won four out of five matches to win third place in his weight class. The team did really good overall with four of the eight wrestlers making it to semi-finals. The team placed 10th out of twenty teams and was one of the smaller teams at the tournament. On Jan. 7, 2016, the Pirates will take on the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. in the Foster High gym. The Third Annual Highline Public Schools Tournament is Saturday Jan. 9, 2016 at Mt Rainier High starting at 10 a.m. Please consider liking and following Highline Pirate Wrestling to get more stories, photos, and updates on the Pirate wrestlers. Thank you for your time and consideration, – Isabel Official Unofficial Pirate Photographer]]>
