When Saturday’s windstorm hit, not only was resident Elston Hill out and about, but so were several brave kiteboarders, who were sailing off the shores of Burien. “At almost exactly Noon Saturday (Aug. 29), I looked out at the Sound and saw three kite board surfers sailing down the middle of the Sound,” Elston said. “They were headed north with the wind and were definitely out in the middle. I snapped these pictures. A few minutes later the rain became so intense that they disappeared from my view. However, 30 minutes later we looked north through the spotting scope and saw two of them nearing Alki Beach and the ferry crossing from Bainbridge Island.” The National Weather Service reports that around that time, winds were from the south at 24 MPH, with gusts up to 39 MPH.
