The King County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that on Thursday (Sept. 10), they were called to a church at about 11:15 a.m. near the 12400 block of Des Moines Memorial Drive (map below).
Police say that a person reported seeing an unauthorized male enter the church via a fire escape.
A woman who was inside the church could also hear the suspect. She was later rescued by police by ladder via a window.
Deputies responded, and later a TAC team and negotiators also arrived. We received a few reports from Readers (thanks!) about major police activity in the area, and here are some photos submitted by Joseph Gomez, who added:
“I first noticed activity as I was traveling south on Des Moines Memorial Drive. When I saw 6 police, they didn’t seem to be engaged so I drove around the block, and that’s when I found this scene. The officer said it was a dangerous situation but offered no info.”

I know it’s not bright to commit burglaries in the first place, but what kind of idiot would choose a church? They don’t have a ton of electronics (unless it’s one of those mega churches where all the dudes have soul patches and tattoos to trick people into thinking despite being Christian they’re cool), I doubt there’s a ton of cash on hand either. What possibly could be the motivator?
Maybe god told him to do it. oh wait god is just a fictional character never mind must of been a bucket list item.
I always listen to what a long haired dude who wears sandals, and performs magic tricks tells me to do!
We see now why you`re called wanker.
You got that right s.y.o. Whats especially troubling is he`s actually following Jimmy. *lol*
Ok, here it goes. Churches often have musical instruments, PA systems, pawnable stuff. that’s why they go after churches. sad.
Thanks for posting positive stories about the police!
Long-time homeless people, can be kind of like bears in that, when the weather cools down they start looking for places to hibernate. Maybe that was what was going on?
Just a heads up to secure sheds, garages and such places. If you have outside electrical outlets be aware that they invite people who are looking for ways to recharge their phones and such.
This is one of the most ignorant comments i have ever seen! By your judgement, criteria, only homeless individuals are law-breakers…get a life or alarm system…it may be your family doing the nasty deed! Break-ins….what a stupid comment. You should be ashamed of yourself!
