The Rotary Club of Burien/White Center recently awarded $10,800 in scholarships to graduating seniors from Highline High School, the Evergreen Campus, Kennedy Catholic High School and Puget Sound Skills Center.

Receiving the Dick Dahlgard Memorial Scholarship was Highline High School student Yusef Ali-Halane. Dick was an outstanding Rotarian and community leader and graduate of Highline (click images to see larger versions):

The Walter O. Carsten Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Evergreen student Genevieve Ilunva. Walt, too, was a very dedicated Rotarian and educational leader, having served as Principal of Evergreen at one point in his career with the Highline School District:

Additional scholarship recipients from Highline High School are Rodha Sheikh and Jathxiry Salazar. Kennedy Catholic High School recipients are Christian Bell and Anton Ziska. Evergreen TEC scholarship recipients are Anthony Berry-You and Krystyna Teav, and from Evergreen HS3, Marleisha Cox and Hendrik Ufkes.

The Puget Sound Skills Center recipient of the Dr. Frank Tanaka Memorial Scholarship is Karina Melnik. Dr. Tanaka was also a valued member of Rotary, and the scholarship goes to a student who is continuing in the dental field:

Burien/White Center Rotary also presented “Service Above Self” awards to Marleisha Cox of Evergreen HS3, Miriam Martinez Flores of Highline High School, and Anna Tegelberg of Kennedy Catholic High School (not pictured). “Service Above Self” is Rotary’s motto, and these students are honored for their dedication to serving their communities.
“Our congratulations to all award recipients!”
