Volunteers are needed to roll up their sleeves to tackle trash and beautify Burien during the city’s annual ‘Clean Sweep,’ starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, and sponsored by Recology CleanScapes. From 8 a.m. – Noon, Volunteers will help pick up litter, eliminate graffiti, sweep sidewalks and more in the Burien Community. To Volunteer, just show up at 8 a.m. (or so) on April 30, grab (and/or bring) some tools and gloves and head out to clean B-Town up! FREE BREAKFAST & HOT DOGS! A continental breakfast – compliments of Countryside Café – will be available in the morning at the new Fire Station No. 2 at 900 SW 146th Street (map below), along with a hot dog lunch in the afternoon to thank the volunteers. Participants will also receive a ticket to enter to win prizes and giveaways. Winners will be announced at the end of the event! The top prize this year is a bicycle, generously sponsored by Collins Chiropractic. IT’S ALSO SHRED DAY HomeTask’s Shred Day event also takes place from 9 a.m. – Noon at their office at 611 SW 152nd Street. The suggested donation for shredding is $10 for the first box and $5 for each additional box (typical fees are around $35/box). Businesses may request pick up service with destruction receipts with $300 minimum. All proceeds from Shred Day go to local nonprofits, some of whom will be at the event. Boxes of paperwork can be dropped at HomeTask starting Wednesday prior to the event. DONATE CLOTHES FOR RELAY FOR LIFE! Also this year, Relay for Life is working with Value Village to encourage all to clean your closet to help fund cancer research. For every pound of clothes you donate to Value Village on April 30, 20 cents will be donated to help fund cancer research. Just clean your closet and bring your items to the Municipal Parking lot, located at 631 SW 151st Street in downtown Burien. People will be there to accept donations from 9 a.m. – Noon. “Please come out this year and help us celebrate Earth Month as we work to make Burien a cleaner, brighter and more sustainable community!” ABOUT DISCOVER BURIEN The Discover Burien Association is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation working on economic development, business recruitment & retention, education, promotion and marketing of the Burien community.
