A deadly crash on northbound I-5 near SR 599 in Tukwila on Friday morning, March 7, 2025, left one person dead, another seriously injured, and led to the arrest of the driver for felony hit-and-run, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), who are seeking witnesses.

WSP said the crash occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m., when a black 2013 Toyota Highlander traveling on the northbound I-5 overpass ramp to northbound SR 599 struck the right-side barrier, crossed to the left, and plunged over the side, landing on I-5 below.

Tragic Outcome and Arrest

Investigators said one occupant was ejected before the vehicle fell onto I-5, landing on the ramp. Another occupant was ejected upon impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. A third passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to Harborview Medical Center.

Once the Highlander hit the freeway, three additional vehicles were involved in the collision, resulting in multiple injuries.

Authorities said the driver, later identified as 30-year-old Daud S. Mohamud of Auburn, fled the scene on foot but was detained by a trooper nearby. He was taken back to the crash site and later booked into King County Jail after being medically cleared at Harborview.

Mohamud is under investigation for felony hit-and-run resulting in death, and felony hit-and-run causing serious injury.

Call for Witnesses

WSP detectives are seeking witnesses who may have seen the crash or the black Toyota Highlander before the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective John Ford at John.Ford@wsp.wa.gov.

The tragic, fatal crash remains under investigation.
