The Burien Severe Weather Shelter is thanking the community for its support after serving 238 guests over 23 nights this winter, providing food, shelter, and essential supplies to those in need.
In a message of gratitude (full text below), shelter organizers credited volunteers and donors for keeping the facility open during winter weather between Jan. 17 and Feb. 14, ensuring a safe place for vulnerable residents during freezing temperatures.
“Your support saves lives,” the shelter said in a note shared with us on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025.
As winter continues, the shelter remains ready to activate if and when temperatures drop below freezing.
“To Our Amazing Community,
“We want to thank you for your partnership in keeping the Burien Severe Weather Shelter open and able to provide shelter to our community. Your support saves lives. Whether you came in and volunteered your time, or sent in donations of food, supplies or funds, you made a difference for many in our community who struggle to find shelter. You showed your love for ALL of our community and we thank you. Shout out to the folks at The B-Town Blog for continuing to share our biggest needs and to inspire our community to come together.
“If it feels like you’ve heard from us a lot this year, you have! We were open to serve our guests 23 of the 28 nights between January 17th and February 14th. As always, you came through for us and made it all possible. This year so far, we have welcomed 238 individual guests, providing hot meals, a warm place to sleep, supplies to help them survive the cold days – and nights when we can’t be open. The winter season is not over. As a reminder, the Severe Weather Shelter is activated when the temperatures fall below freezing for a significant part of the night.
“In whatever way you participated this year, we thank you for helping us keep our doors open and create a warm, welcoming place for some of our most vulnerable community members to get out of the weather and rest.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Thanks for all you do, Burien Severe Weather Shelter! And thank you for including their story, B-town blog; that’s how I found out about the org and was able to donate and help folks in my community.
