The council will review a proposed Housing Code and Map Amendment aimed at expanding housing options citywide. The amendment, part of Burien’s 2044 Comprehensive Plan, seeks to increase housing availability while addressing displacement concerns. The amendment “is an essential step to implementing the housing goals and land use plan of the Burien 2044 Comprehensive Plan,” city officials said in the packet.
Public safety is also on the agenda, with the council expected to discuss the city’s new Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, which focuses on reducing traffic fatalities and improving pedestrian and cyclist safety. The plan follows the completion of Burien’s Transportation Master Plan in 2024 and aims to implement targeted safety improvements.
Additionally, the council will vote on Ordinance No. 797, which pertains to parking enforcement regulations. A request for change was made by the King County Sheriff’s Office, serving by contract as the Burien Police Department. The proposed changes would provide law enforcement with greater ability to enforce laws that govern parking in Burien.
Other key decisions include approving Resolution No. 514, which allocates funds through the South King Housing and Homelessness Partners (SKHHP) Housing Capital Fund to support affordable housing projects in the region.
