All Highline Public Schools will reopen on time Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024, following widespread closures caused by recent power outages due to this week’s “bomb cyclone” weather event, officials announced.

Power has been restored at all but one school site, Madrona Elementary School, which will still open as planned thanks to a contingency plan. The district confirmed that meals will be served, safety systems are operational, and partial lighting will be available at Madrona. However, the building may be cooler than usual, and students and staff are encouraged to wear extra layers. Power may be restored at Madrona overnight or during the school day on Thursday.

“We appreciate your patience today and look forward to welcoming students back to school,” the district said in a statement.

The reopening comes after a severe windstorm caused disruptions across a wide region, impacting power and infrastructure at several school sites.
