On Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, the Burien Severe Weather Shelter will be open during the daytime as a warming center, and organizers could use some help.

This is a one-day-only event, as libraries and other government buildings will be closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

“We still have a need for volunteers in the afternoon (2:30-7 p.m. or whatever hours you have available) to help us keep guests fed and comfortable while they spend their day with us,” organizers said.

Please check the SignUp link for more information on shifts, but again, just let them know if you need to arrive a little late or leave a little early and they can accommodate whatever schedule you need.

“Daytime hours are new for all us, and we will have staff on site to provide guidance to volunteers,” they said.

Looking at the forecast, they decided that the shelter will also remain open on Tuesday night, Jan. 16, 2024. Organizers have added shifts for Tuesday’s dinner and Wednesday’s breakfast. Please check the sign up as they’ll be updating with supply needs through the day tomorrow for additional meals.

“Thank you for helping us keep our community safe during this exceptionally cold time! Your donations and volunteer hours have made the difference for so many. We could not do this without your support.

“We hope to see you soon!”
