Our friends at the Burien Severe Weather Shelter are gearing up, and could use some help preparing for the upcoming winter.

“We know it’s hard to imagine freezing weather right now, but fall is quickly approaching and the time moves quickly,” organizers said. “Now is the time to start gearing up for winter.

To help them prepare, they are looking for volunteers to help with organization and inventory of supplies.

Come to a Work Party

The shelter will be holding three work parties soon, and they are inviting volunteers:

Donations Needed

They would also like to start collecting coats and other necessary gear to help their guests survive our freezing winter weather.

Supplies they can always use might be on sale and more available leading up to winter, including:

  • Warm winter coats (adult sizes) – Costco has nice warm puffy coats starting at $20
  • Warm, waterproof boots & shoes (adult sizes)
  • Sweatpants (adult sizes)
  • Hand warmers
  • Men’s boxer brief underwear (S-M-L)

Organizers expect to have volunteer orientation and training in the fall as they get closer to opening, so please keep an eye open for more info soon.

“Thank you for working with us to care for our neighbors.”
