Local pup Charcoal has been named the 2025 King County champion of the annual Pooch Playoffs and will now represent the region in the international finals, organizers announced this week.

Charcoal, who bested dozens of other dogs in a bracket-style online contest, will compete against more than a dozen other top dogs from across the U.S. and Canada in the final round of voting this Sunday, April 6. The international winner will be announced Monday, April 7.

Supporters can cast their votes online at cloverlaine.com/pooch, where they’re also encouraged to donate to help meet the event’s $4,000 fundraising goal. So far, organizers say $2,080 has been raised to benefit pets in need of food, shelter, and medical care.

“If every person who votes donates just $1, together we can make an incredible impact,” organizers wrote.

The lighthearted contest, hosted by Clover Laine Photography, combines adorable competition with charitable giving, raising funds to support animals still waiting for their forever homes.
