The 2016 Empty Bowls fundraiser – held on Friday, Jan. 29 – welcomed 1,125 visitors, and raised over $19,000 for both the Highline Area and White Center Food Banks. “A huge thank you to all who attended and volunteered at the 2016 Empty Bowls event!” Burien Parks said on their Facebook page, “…yahoo!!!” Discover Burien and Burien Parks and Recreation teamed up with Moshier potters, who donated over 1,300 bowls, to host Empty Bowls every year. Empty Bowls events can be found around the country raising money to combat hunger in our communities. Donors got an opportunity to pick out a beautiful handmade bowl, as well as a simple but wonderful meal of soup, bread, drink and dessert donated by area businesses. New this year was a raffle/auction of beautiful handmade serving bowls and platters, and wine! There were over 36 local restaurants, sponsors, caterers and facilities that donated over 5 gallons of soup each to help make this event such a success. A special thank you to the following:
