BREAKING: The “Battle of Burien” football game between Kennedy Catholic High School and Highline High School, originally scheduled for this Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024 has been canceled.

Highline High will forfeit the game to Kennedy, due to circumstances related to the recent cyberattack on Highline Public Schools technology systems.

“The football team was not allowed to practice this week (until today),” Athletic Director Lori Box told The B-Town Blog. “Two days is not enough time to prepare and for the safety of our student-athletes we have canceled the game.”

Although other teams in Highline Public Schools will play this weekend, Highline High made the decision to forfeit with the support of the district after careful deliberation of their unique circumstances.

“While we are disappointed that our Lancers will not be able to play their home opener, we understand that those involved in the decision had to make a difficult call after a very challenging week for the Highline Public Schools,” Alyson Soma, Director, Marketing & Communications for Kennedy Catholic High School told The B-Town Blog.

Kennedy’s next football game will take place on Friday, Sept. 20, at Tahoma, with the home opener now scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28 against Kentwood.

Highline’s next game will be Friday night, Sept. 20 in an away game against Interlake High School.
