The New Start Community Garden — also known as the Shark Garden — will host its annual Spring Open House on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from Noon to 3 p.m., featuring local nonprofits, plant sales, and free soil testing for attendees.

The event offers a seasonal celebration for all ages, complete with a fundraiser plant and jelly sale, and booths from community partners sharing their services.

Wanderlust Nursery and Nobody Nursery will be selling edible and rare native plants, while Master Gardeners will be available to answer gardening questions.

In a special offering this year, the Washington State Department of Ecology will provide free instant soil testing.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a cup of soil from home for on-the-spot analysis.

“Come help welcome spring to the garden!” organizers said in their event announcement.

The open house will take place at the Shark Garden, located on the campus of New Start High School in Burien at 614 SW 120th Street:
